What are the uses of titanium carbide(TiC)?

June 21,2023

1. Application of nano titanium carbide(TiC) in aerospace components

Nano titanium carbide(TiC) has a melting point above 3000 ℃, good high temperature strength, good compatibility with tungsten, similar coefficient of thermal expansion, and much lower density than tungsten.

2. Nano titanium carbide foam ceramics

As a filter, foam ceramic can effectively remove inclusions in various fluids, and its filtering mechanism is agitation and adsorption. Filters require chemical stability of materials, especially filters used in metallurgical industry require high melting point, so most of these materials are oxides, and in order to adapt to the filtration of metal melt, they mainly seek to improve the thermal shock resistance. Nano titanium carbide foam ceramics have higher strength, hardness, heat conduction, conductivity, heat resistance and corrosion resistance than oxide foam ceramics;

3. Widely used in the manufacturing of wear-resistant materials, cutting tools, molds, melting metal crucibles, and other fields, transparent titanium carbide ceramics are also good optical materials

Titanium carbide abrasive in the abrasive and grinding tool industry is an ideal material to replace traditional grinding materials such as alumina, silicon carbide, boron carbide, and chromium oxide; The grinding ability of nano titanium carbide can be comparable to that of artificial diamond, greatly reducing costs. Currently, it has been widely used in countries such as the United States, Japan, and Russia. Products such as abrasives, grinding wheels, and grinding paste made of nano titanium carbide materials can greatly improve grinding efficiency, precision, and surface smoothness.

4. Powder metallurgy field

Nano titanium carbide powder is used as raw material for powder metallurgy production of ceramics and hard alloy parts, such as wire drawing dies and hard alloy molds.
